I’m not sure if I have the easiest, or hardest story on how I joined. But this is how it was as far as I can recall.
I really have no sense of time between when I started IRCing and when #TeenCabin happened. As little as a month, as much as six months. I really don’t know. I had been a “member” of channels previously. First #!!hello!!. It was mostly adults in there. It’s where I met PandaW, a long lost “first day” cabiner. It’s also where I met Ayla, the woman who introduced me to the world of Eggdrop bots, and in turn Unix. She showed me how to compile my first bot on a shell she provided me. Without logging in that day to a Unix shell to type “./configure ; make” I hesitate to wonder where i’d be in my life right now.
After #!!hello!! I remember hanging out in #teensysop, where I met AcidKewl. It was at that point I was trying to take my IRCing to a higher level by trying my hand in mIRC scripting. I met a guy somewhere who offered to run a dedicated mIRC client with a script acting as a bot in #teensysop and I was estatic. The other members of the channel, however, were not. They banned the bot and I left deciding to do my own thing.
It was at that faithful moment I decided to start my own channel and typed “/join #TeenCabin”. However, when I joined there were two people in there. A guy named “Gambit” and a person who later came to hang out in the cabin quite a bit, “Lipstik”. They were using it as a meeting place, and once they both were in there they left. #TeenCabin was born.
I then /msg’ed AcidKewl, Ayla, and PandaW to join the newly created channel.
The rest is history.
